Originally a fortress of the thirteenth century, this chateau was built on a rocky island.
The course of the Deštenský stream created a pond and somewhat altered the rocky island.
In the sixteenth century the fortress was remodeled into a renesauce style chateau called New or King´s Lhota.
Until the seventeenth century, it was known as the Červená (Red) Lhota in reference to the colors of the walls and roof.
